SUMMERSIDE, PE – A competitively compact field of top harness racing pacers will contest the Monday afternoon featured pace at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Monday afternoon card gets underway at 1 P.M. with the $2,800 Preferred 2 pace lining up in race 11 of the day.
Heart And Soul is the morning line favourite from post 4 in the field of five pacers with Walter Cheverie aboard for trainer George Riley and owners Riley Farms Ltd., of Summerside. The son of Western Paradise remained winless on the season until two weeks ago with a 1:55.3 score then followed it up with a bang-up third last week to top pacers Woodmere Ideal Art and Batterup Hanover. Those top two finishers are absent from Summerside this week as Heart And Soul looks for career win number 34.
Best To Hurst has rail control for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Lloyd Hannah after finishing third his last two starts at this level. Hunger Pangs is second choice from post 5 with Corey MacPherson in the seat for trainer Wade Sorrie. Also in the field are Coasttocoastshark (To be driven by Devon Wallace) and Winter Blast (Jason Hughes).
The Backstretch Beat in Monday’s card places Heart And Soul in the win position. “They don’t come much more consistent than Heart And Soul and if you need more proof take a look at the stats. Moves to the mid pack and will be up near the pace so he could cross the line first.”
Double Terror makes his P.E.I. debut in the race 12 finale as the son of Western Terror moves into the Taylor Doyle barn for owner The Cameron Stable of Summerside. A winner of eight races and $101,188 in earnings while racing while racing the upper classes at Fraser Downs in British Columbia, Doyle will handle the pacer from post 2.
