Ontario Racing’s Prospect Series for Ontario Sired harness racing horses is fast approaching its September 30 finale at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
With just over a month left in the season, Josh McKibbin’s three-year-old trotting colt Sir Ballykeel (Il Sogno Dream) has locked up his spot in the $15,000 final.
Sir Ballykeel is leading his division, with two wins and a runner-up finish in three Prospect Series starts
“I’ve been really happy with his Prospect Series starts this season,” said McKibbin. “He’s found a way to perform in every one of them.”
Sir Ballykeel is looking to win the Prospect Finals for the second straight year, after taking home the freshman trotting colt finals in 2021.
“It would be great to win again,” said McKibbin. “His brother had success in the Prospect Series as well, but couldn’t win the final, so we’ll see if he can pull off the repeat.”
In order to qualify for the Prospect Series final, horses must have made a minimum of three starts in the regular season.
Racing opportunities remain in all ages, sexes, and gaits for horses to meet this threshold.
The top eight-point earners who enter will battle for the $15,000 Prospect Series Championship at The Raceway. The Finals, unlike the legs, do not require a minimum number of starters.
