Therealprincess (Source Of Pride), a $ 10,000 yearling purchase in the Atlantic Classic yearling sale in 2020 is paying off tenfold in her young career in just twenty-one lifetime starts.
This year, she surpassed $100,000 in purse money earnings and will look to add to that lucrative sum in Saturday’s Maritimer stake at Exhibition Park Raceway.
Owned by Eddie Doucette, Blaine Thibeau, Gord MacLeod and Grant Mann, the filly has provided many thrills to her connections.
Blaine Thibeau actually bred the filly and retained part ownership in the fourteen-time winner.
Her latest win came over Northside Downs in an Atlantic Sires stakes event in 1:57. She sports a lifetime mark of 1:54.3 over Truro Raceway this season.
Corey MacPherson is the regular pilot for the filly and will again drive her in the challenging Maritime stake. Like the other finalists she will have to race twice on the same afternoon. It’s a test of endurance and strategy by the drivers involved.
Corey Macpherson has driven the fully in all but one of her career starts and to say they have been a dynamic duo is an understatement. She has to beat eleven other fillies twice to take the crown.
Her toughest test in her division appears to be JJ Scarlett (Tobago Cays) who has a lifetime mark of 1:54.4 over Summerside Raceway this year. She has close to $78,000 in the bank.
First elimination will see New Brunswick owned Orrsterror (Stonebridge Terror) from the Gilles Barrieau stable and owners Dale Orr and Robert Orr of Saint John. She has a great post to work with from post one.
In the second elimination, it’s a little bit wider open. Cougar On A Terr (Cougar Hall) comes off two wins in her last three and has the benefit of post one. She’s another Walter Walker trainee from Nova Scotia. She has a 1:55.1 lifetime mark.
Tobins Diva (Varadero Hanover) and high percentage trainer Kevin MacLean will have New Brunswick native Dale Spence on board in her elimination and is another threat in this one. She’s got a mark of 1:56.1 over Red Shores Charlottetown.
KCS Starlite (Source Of Pride) also sees action in division two for driver Stephen Trites and owners Don Bishop Bruce MacDonald and Charlie Miles.
Top four finishers advance to the $10,000 final. Each elimination goes for a purse of $ 7000 each.
Maritimer is just one of the key events of the thirteen-dash card at Exhibition Park Raceway presented by Horse Racing New Brunswick.
Milton Downey stakes, the Rod Goguen Memorial, and the Standardbred Canada aged pacing series also highlight the best card of racing in New Brunswick in recent memory.
Over $70,000 in purse money to be doled out on the afternoon. We wish all the horsemen and women good luck and thanks once again for coming to New Brunswick to help us showcase so many stars of racing in one program.
