The team at Harnesslink is delighted to announce the arrival of highly respected Southland journalist, Bruce Stewart, as a New Zealand correspondent for the global harness racing website.
Stewartās employment is hot on the back of the website employing Brad Reid to its New Zealand ranks that already include Bevan Greig and Ben McMillan.
It has been some time since Harnesslink has been able to provide the organic coverage that the New Zealand harness racing scene deserves and on the eve of our 20th birthday, we are excited to once again be at the forefront of delivering the right mix of insightful content for our followers.
Stewart brings to harnesslink.com forty-four years of experience in radio as a radio announcer, programme director and salesperson. A favourite aspect of the job was compiling and hosting the hour-long racing show during the 80s called Tracktalk.
In addition to his radio career, for the past fifteen years he has been the editor, journalist, and photographer for southernharness.co.nz ā a website dedicated to the harness racing industry in the Southern area of New Zealand.
Bruce is passionate about harness racing. He happily spends hours researching breeding and genetics of horses, and he thoroughly enjoys writing about the people who own, breed, train and drive the beautiful animals that create the industry itself.
Heās dabbled a bit in ownership. Wishing in the 80s and 90s to encourage non racing people into the industry he founded the 4ZA Syndicate based on ownership at the cost of a dollar a day. A great deal of fun was had, as well as a couple of winners – Wheeler DealerĀ 4 wins and Lincoln LadĀ 3 wins.
For the past eleven years Bruce has been the President of the Riverton Trotting Club. Always interested in promoting the industry, he formulated the concept that is now the highly successful Diamonds Day at Ascot Park. Further promotion has achieved the Group Two Diamond Creek Farm Two-Year-Old Classic and Diamond Creek Farms Three Diamond Series.
Outside of racing, Bruce loves hanging out with his nine grandchildren. And any chance he has, he heads for Riverton to enjoy the beach and get out onto the water on his surf ski.
He looks forward to the future as a journalist for harnesslink.com ā there are many more stories to write and thatāll keep him happy.
