Big tracks the lure for WA pacer in Inter Dominion

That’s what trainer-driver Dylan Egerton-Green says as he sets his sights on the opening round of heats in Ballarat this Saturday night.

To Fast To Serious

The 29-year-old horseman landed in Victoria yesterday along with the six-year-old gelding, who will prepare for the pacing series from Jodi Quinlan’s stables in Parwan.

Egerton-Green is looking forward to seeing what the 17-time winner can do away from the tight confines of the Gloucester Park circuit in his home state.

“He gets around good-ish, but I think he will really benefit from the big tracks,” he said.

“And it’s just a bit of experience for myself as well which is good.”

Owned by Rob Tomlinson, who operates under the Oz-West Pacing banner, To Fast To Serious has only recently joined the stables of Egerton-Green.

He was trained by Aiden Warwick when he won the Group 1 2YO Colts and Geldings Westbred Classic in 2018, and scored 13 victories under the care of Ray Williams between late 2019 and July this year.

To Fast To Serious heads to the ID22 series on the back of a sixth placing behind WA star Magnificent Storm in the elite level James Brennan Memorial on November 11.

“He’s got a good 800m in him. He just needs a bit of luck and I think the big tracks will suit him down to the ground,” Egerton-Green said.

To Fast To Serious has been given the visitors’ draw for the opening round of heats at Ballarat on Saturday night, with the horse to leave from outside the back row in barrier 12.

He’s rated a $101 chance with the TAB to win the $500,000 Inter Dominion Pacing Championship Grand Final, but Egerton-Green says simply making the Group 1 decider will be a good achievement.

“That’s what we are aiming for and then whatever else we do from there is good,” he said.

Horses will accumulate points for finishing positions across the three rounds of pacing heats, with the leading 12 at the conclusion of the qualifiers securing a place in the Grand Final at Tabcorp Park Melton on December 10.

Points are allocated as follows: 1st (16), 2nd (13), 3rd (11), 4th (9), 5th (8), 6th (7), 7th (6), 8th (5), 9th (4), 10th (3), 11th (2) and 12th (1).

Shepparton will host heats on November 29 before the third and final round at Geelong on December 3.
