Three $56,241 divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for two-year-old harness racing pacing colts and geldings were the main attraction Sunday (Aug. 27) at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
The 5th race first division saw Booming Economy (Captaintreacherous) and driver Tim Tetrick move first-over in the backstretch and collared pacesetter Aintbluenomore (Jeremy Indof), then pulled away from the field to win by three and three-quarter lengths in 1:50.4. Swifty Lazar (David Miller) was second with Aintbluenomore third.
BOOMING ECONOMY REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark and the second straight win for Booming Economy, who hails from the top pacing mare Economy Terror. He is trained by Nancy Takter and was bred and is owned by Howard Taylor, Chuck Pompey and Edwin Gold. He paid $2.80 to win as the wagering favorite.
The second $56,241 PASS division was the 10th race where undefeated Gem Quality (Captain Crunch) and driver Corey Callahan waited until the backstretch to come first-over against race leader Solid Character (David Miller).
Those two battled around the final turn and all the way down the stretch with Gem Quality getting up at the wire to win by a nose over Solid Character in 1:53.2. Lou’s World (Todd McCarthy) was third.
GEM QUALITY REPLAY
Now undefeated in three career starts, Gem Quality is trained by Chris Ryder and was bred by the Let It Ride Stables and Bottom Line Racing, who co-own the colt with Brad Grant and Enviro Stables. He was the betting favorite and paid $2.60 to win.
The run of wagering favorites winning the PA Sire Stakes Sunday continued in the 12th race third $56,241 division as Captain Albano (Captaintreacherous) and driver Todd McCarthy sat a perfect two-hole trip behind pacesetter Rose Run Zeke (Jeremy Indof) and came on in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:50. Rose Run Zeke held for second with Zeppole Hanover (Corey Callahan) third.
CAPTAIN ALBANO REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark for Captain Albano and his second straight win and third victory in four lifetime starts. The colt is trained by Noel Daley for the Patricia Stable, L A Express & Sjoblom and Michael Dolan. He paid $2.60 to win.
