To protect the safety of equine and human athletes, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is reminding all Standardbred harness racing participants that the Spyder 3D race bike is not permitted for use in racing due to safety concerns raised by the U.S. Trotting Association (USTA).
Effective June 1, 2023, the USTA made the decision to withdraw the sulky model Spyder 3D from the USTA Approved Sulky list following a detailed investigation into reported safety issues.
The requirement for using only USTA approved sulkies is outlined in the following Standardbred Rules of Racing: Chapter 22: Racing Rules
22.21.04 Use of bent shaft sulkies in any race is prohibited. Only USTA approved conventional sulkies will be permitted to be used.
