An impressive harness racing victory by Son of Mac (American Ideal) in the Renown Silverware Pace at Melton furthered the case for trainer Kyle Marshall to embark on a trip to Brisbane in the coming weeks.Ā
Sent out a $4 favorite, Son Of Mac settled parked out the leader Oxo Ah Lister before Marshall elected to press on for the front running with 12000 meters to travel.Ā
Given full rein, Son Of Mac reeled off a 56.7 last 800 metres scoring with authority by five metres from the Julie Douglas trained Jaccka Connor and Clymenus.Ā
Marshall said Son Of Mac became fired up when Carramar Solomona made a mid-race move towards the lead.Ā
āHe got quite keen behind the mobile and came out of it a lot better than I expected but he got a bit keen when that horse came around and we had no option but to press forward,ā Marshall said.Ā
āHe stuck it out and we were lucky enough to get that one cheap quarter and heās found the line nice, heās getting fitter and itās just good to get him back,ā he said.Ā
Marshall admitted he was relieved to be back in the winnerās stall with Son Of Mach following the pacerās past two unplaced efforts at Melton.Ā
āHis first start when Chris drove him he went very poor but I put it down to the stable having a virus and last week we had no chance from the back when they went 1:52,ā he said.Ā
Marshall said the opportunity to winter in the sun was a distinct possibility following stablemate Bachās success earlier in the night.Ā
āIāll talk to the owners but everything is planned and if we do decide to go we are ready,ā he said.Ā
