Standardbred Canada reports that harness racing driver Doug McNair has withdrawn from this year’s National Driving Championship, which is set to take place this Friday, July 5 at Hippodrome 3R.
McNair, who secured a berth for this year’s NDC as a result of being Canada’s representative in the 2023 World Driving Championship, cited “personal reasons” for his withdrawal from this year’s competition.
Being scratched down to a field of eight competitors, the NDC will proceed with eight NDC races featuring eight-horse fields in each of those races.
The fields will be finalized once the draft call is complete. The NDC draft call is set to take place on Tuesday, July 2.
The eight drivers competing in this year’s NDC are as follows:
- Tyler Borth (Ontario)
- Stephane Brosseau (Quebec/Eastern)
- Redmond Doucet (Atlantic)
- David Dowling (Atlantic)
- Phil Giesbrecht (Western)
- Mike Hennessy (Western)
- James MacDonald (Ontario)
- Robert Shepherd (Quebec/Eastern)
