Much improved Victorian Cantfindabettorman (Sweet Lou) stamped his credentials when he scored effortlessly to take out the Third Heat of the TAB Inter Dominion for harness racing pacers at Newcastle last night.Ā
In a scrambling race early favourite Blacksadance was able to take the lead but not after having to go hard early to retain the front. Curly James was able to secure a good run back mid field one out.Ā
But the winning move was made when Chris Alford on Cantfindabettorman made a lightning move that caught the field napping and he went to the lead at the bell. He was able to relax for a while and then skipped away on straightening to record a comfortable win over Curly James by nine metres with outsider Whereyabinboppin finishing on for third.Ā
If there was a hard luck story it had to be with Queensland visitor Jimartee who was locked away back on the rails and didnāt see any clear daylight until well into the home straight. He ran on well for fourth placing.Ā
Driver Chris Alford commented after the event
āWhen we going so slow early I had to try to get him up to the front rather than being wide at the finish. When I pulled out he just zipped to the front and then relaxed and then zipped up the straight again. He needed that breather. To his credit he was jogging on the final bend. . He just ran away. He felt super if something had challenged as I thought Curly James would.Ā He still had plenty left when he pulled upā.
A striking brown gelding with a distinctive white face, Cantfindabettorman is racing in rare form for his trainer Isabel Walsh who prepares her team at Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley.Ā
He gives the impression that he has further improvement and will get better during the series.Ā
Last year Cantfindabettorman won the Consolation of the Inter Dominion and no doubt his connections will be hoping that he goes one better this year.Ā
