Fakenit storms home in Daintys Daughter Classic

Lightly raced Fakenit (American Ideal) upset her more fancied stablemate Betterthanlife when she finished with a well timed burst to take out the $50,000 Group 3 Daintys Daughter classic for three year old harness racing fillies at Gloucester Park on Friday evening.

Gary Hall Jnr elected to drive Betterthanlife who he trains ahead of Fakenit who is prepared by his father Gary Snr who then gave Maddison Brown the drive.

The race turned out to be an uncanny resemblance to the Western Australia Oaks Prelude a few weeks back when Fakenit again driven by Maddison Brown came from back in the field to edge out Betterthanlife who was forced to race outside the leader.

In the Daintys Daughter classid, Ruby Lovera held the early lead from the pole draw. Fakenit was caught outside the leader while Reinette drove up from the second row to get the trail behind Ruby Lovera. But no sooner had the field settled down Hall Jnr allowed Betterthanlife to go up alongside Ruby Lovera giving Fakenit a trail one out and one back.

Ruby Lovera led in the final lap but Betterthanlife eyeballed her as they raced together. Betterthanlife forged to the lead but she could withstand the well timed challenge of Fakenit who finished too strongly by over three metres. Copperhead Lady who also had a trail battled on for third placing.

Fakenit has had just seven starts for four wins and three placings and she is out of Fake News who was a top performer for the Hall stable winning 14 of her 38 appearances with seven placings. Fake News raced until her four year old days reaching free for all class before being retired. Fakenit is the first of her progeny to race but she also has a yearling and weanling filly both by King of Swing.

Fakenit’s recent form makes her a strong prospect for this year’s $150,000 Group 1 Western Australia Oaks to be run on 3 October. However Betterthanlife has shown that she is an above average filly and with a bit of luck in the draw could well turn the tables.
