Capable colt Forty Love (Downbytheseaside) scored his best win to date with a gutsy harness racing win in the Listed $30,000 South Australian Derby at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

Forty Love had won his heat a week ago in impressive style and was considered the main danger to the other Victorian Silver Pistol who had won the other heat.

In a race of changing contrasts Forty Love was well back in the field from his second row draw. Silver Pistol couldn’t take advantage of his pole draw and he was beaten for pace by Major Crunch who then gave away the lead to Coniston.

But Aaron Dunn on Forty Love was off soon after and with Always Dancing charged around the field to race outside the leader.

With a lap to travel Forty Love continued to put pressure on Coniston. Silver Pistol started to make a run three wide in the back straight but he was labouring and it was obvious he wasn’t going to catch the leaders.

Despite his torrid run Forty Love defied the opposition with My Ultimate Jimmy the only danger. Forty Love continued to fight back but My Ultimate Jimmy gradually made up ground and made a desperate lunge on the line but it was too late. Major Crunch came in over 25 metres away in third.

It was a well deserved win by Forty Love who is owned and trained by Aaron Dunn.

Forty Love had contested both the Victorian and New South Wales Derbies earlier in the season but appreciated the drop in class.

Silver Pistol who only beat one home was subject to a vets examination after the event but no abnormalities were reported.

Forty Love is out of Shadow Scooter and she has a brown yearling colt by American Ideal and a weanling filly by Downbytheseaside and these are also raced by Dunn.
