Emerging harness racing reinswoman Tayla French finds herself on the big stage at Melton next Saturday night after steering Our Luciano (Sweet Lou) to an upset victory in the second Semi Final of the Vicbred Super Series (2YO Colts & Geldings).
The 26-year-old French produced one of the drives of the night on the Keith Cotchin trained son of Sweet Lou.
Our Luciano settled mid field in the running line before French opted to take the short way homeĀ along the pegs approaching the home turn and made full use of the sprint lane in the home straight scoring by two metres from No Notthebuttons
French acknowledged the Cotchin trained Our Luciano had flown under the radar leading into the race.
āWe were probably the underdogs going up against the top trainers of the game in these kind of races so we donāt go in overly rated,Ā but the Cotchins know their horses inside out and do a terrific job with them,ā French said.
OUR LUCIANO REPLAY
French believes Our Luciano will prove competitive in next weekās Group 1 Final should the marbles fall his way in the barrier draw.
āWe just need the barrier draw like most horses do but heās definitely got the speed in his legs, he is very quick so fingers crossed that we get a good draw next week and wonāt be too far away,ā she said.
