Golden girls set for showdown seven

Tough Tilly will race at Ballarat this Saturday night.

The next chapter in the Ladies In Red/Tough Tilly story will be written in Ballarat this Saturday night.

The Emma Stewart-trained stars are poised for the seventh showdown of their careers, with both confirmed for the Nutrien Argent 3YO Classic at Bray Raceway.

Ladies In Red, the reigning Victorian 2YO Pacing Filly of the Year by Mach Three, holds a 5-1 advantage over Tough Tilly in the head-to-head bouts, but the latter proved victorious in the most recent of those on December 31 last year.

That was the Group 1 Vicbred Super Series 2YO Fillies Final, with Tough Tilly going on to claim more elite level success in the Australian Pacing Gold 3YO Fillies Final in May while her stablemate was out for an extended spell.

Tough Tilly, the daughter of Captaintreacherous who races for EB Research Partnership Australia, will be first-up since that triumph this weekend, while Ladies In Red returned from more than eight months away from the races with a breathtaking victory in the AJ Prendergast Memorial Oaks at Ballarat on September 2.

Kate Gath will again drive Tough Tilly, who has drawn barrier eight for Saturday night’s race, while David Moran is with Ladies In Red, who will start from barrier seven.

Stewart-trained stablemate Mach Dan is another exciting runner returning to the races at the weekend.

The Horsham and Mildura Pacing Cup champ will line-up in the TAB Gammalite Free For All for what will be his first start since running third to Expensive Ego in the Group 1 Australian Pacing Gold 4YO Entires and Geldings Final on May 1.

Saturday night’s 10-race card will kick off from 5.32pm, with the Group 3 Allied Express Tailamade Lombo the feature of the night for the open class mares.

Friday night will also see the running of the Group 3 Saddleworld Shepparton Trotters Cup.

The race has drawn a quality field of squaregaiters, including Andy Gath-trained Majestuoso and Havehorsewilltravel, Matthew Craven’s brilliant mare Pink Galahs and Kate Hargreaves’ country cups star Well Defined.

Expansive Trots Vision coverage is planned for both meetings at thetrots.com.au.
