Without doubt, one of the best harness racing performances seen at Tabcorp Park Menangle throughout the Sky Racing Sydney Carnival was classy mare Braeview Kellyās (Bettor’s Delight) effort in the Queen Elizabeth II Mile.
The talented five-year-old was caught on a limb three-wide for the first half of the trip on Saturday night before her driver Cameron Hart turned the handlebars down and wrested the lead away, a move that paved the way for her emphatic victory.
Braeview Kelly posted a remarkable time of 1:49.5 and despite her heavy workload looked quite comfortable in scoring by three metres, defeating Amore Vita and Fairy Tinkabell.
The enormity of the win impressed the board of Club Menangle, who hardly hesitated in granting her one of the two wildcard entires into this weekendās $1m Garrards Miracle Mile.
BRAEVIEW KELLY REPLAY
For her mentor, Jack Trainor, it was a most satisfying result all round, firstly declaring that the win in the Queen Elizabeth II Mile was a major highlight of his short career, followed closely by her selection into the most prestigious race on the Australasian calendar.
āShe has been a super mare to all of us since coming over from New Zealand,ā said Trainor.Ā
āWe knew going into Saturdayās race that she would be hard to beat, but the effort she produced was simply unreal.ā
When asked who will be taking the drive on the bonny mare in the million dollar race, Trainor never hesitated, pointing towards Hart:
āHe was good enough to get her into the race, so he is good enough to retain the drive,ā said Trainor.
It is a task that Hart is eager to take on and although his charge will start from gate five, there is no real concern from the stable over the wide draw.
āShe is a versatile mare,ā said the mareās trainer.
āI have absolutely no doubt that Cam will give her every chance.
āHe is the stateās premier driver for a reason, he is such a talented reinsman.ā
Hart will certainly keep himself occupied leading into Saturdayās huge meeting with seven drives at Penrith tonight and another handful at Newcastle tomorrow night.
Penrithās nine-race program begins at 6.18pm with the TAB Venue Mode Pace and Hart is aboard the odds-on favourite Top The Ace.
Rio De Janeiro Blue is also favoured to win the last race for the former Riverina reinsman.
