The 2016 Racing Queensland UBET winter carnival is fast approaching and in the coming weeks, Queensland harness broadcaster Chris Barsby will profile a number of major players vying for the top prizes.
With 18 Black Type races on the program for the 2016 Winter Carnival, the carnival’s pinnacle in 2016 is the G1 Blacks A Fake, which now boasts an impressive $200,000 in stakes.
The carnival spans from May 28 to July 30.
Here’s a profile featuring an up and coming three-year-old filly that looks certain to be a player in the Oaks features.
Name: Im Wrongly Accused
Stable Name: Lindy
Age: 3yo filly
Owner: Chris and Jeanette O’Connor
Trainer: Matthew Craven
Driver: Matthew Craven
Prizemoney: $32,269
Biggest win: Heat of Victoria Oaks (April – Melton)
Target: Gr.1 $75k Queensland Oaks (July 9)
Trainer says: “A really nice filly with a good turn of speed, a little opportunistic but very capable given the right conditions. Her victory in the Victoria Oaks heat was excellent and clearly proved she’s amongst the better fillies in this country. The natural hard racing style of Brisbane will really suit her and the Queensland Oaks has been an obvious target since we purchased her from New Zealand earlier this year.”
Barsby says: “A definite threat in the Oaks features during the carnival and with a young trainer/driver in a hurry and hungry for feature race success. Since crossing the Tasman her form has been very consistent and with a touch more luck, could’ve easily racked up a few more victories and wasn’t far from the winner in the Victoria Oaks final. Expect this filly to perform at a high standard.”
