Tango Tara books a spot in SA Pacing Cup

It was a case of mission accomplished when Tango Tara (A Rocknroll Dance) led all the way in the Ardrossan Hotel Kadina Pacing Cup (2645m) at Globe Derby Park on Tuesday.

Victorian harness racing trainer Andy Gath targeted the cup with Tango Tara because victory guaranteed him a start in the $60,000 South Australian Cup (2645m) at Globe Derby Park on Saturday, October 28.

Driven by top reinsman Ryan Hryhorec, the virtually unbackable $1.12 favourite, began smartly from barrier two, withstood an early challenge then settled into a good rhythm.

Hryhorec was able to record very comfortable 30.6 and 30.3 second quarters for the first half of the last 1600 metres before sprinting home in a half of 56.7 seconds.

Tango Tara won by 2-1/2 metres from Assassinator ($12) with Wrangler ($23) running home strongly to be two metres away third.

“He might not have looked impressive, but he had more to give,” Hryhorec said.

“Kate (Gath) warned me that he did just enough to win.

“Coming to the home turn I thought it was going to be an easy win, but then I saw Assassinator making a good run, so I had to shake him up.

“He would have found a lot more if he been strongly challenged.”

TANGO TARA REPLAY

Hryhorec said Tango Tara would return to Gath’s stables before coming back for the SA Cup.

“It will be interesting to see the makeup of the Cup field but I’m sure he will be one of the main chances.”

Gath is understood to be considering bringing stablemate Outlaw Man across to run in the Cup heats and also qualify for the SA Cup.

Outlaw Man is a last start winner of the 7-Eleven Cup (2180m) at Kilmore on September 29.

Trainer-driver Dean Girardi described trotter Cyclone S Adams as a “perfect gentleman” after winning the Wombat Hotel Kadina Trotters Cup (2645m).

Beginning well off his 10-metre handicap, Cyclone S Adams ($4) trotted through to take the lead and was never headed in scoring a 1-1/2 metre win from Barhoon ($11) with Hammers Law ($5.50), three metres away third.

The favourite, Powderkeg ($2.60) looked a winning chance on the home turn but faded up the home straight to finish fifth.

Girardi said Cyclone S Adams was an amazing horse to have in his stable.

“He loves his work and is a pleasure to have around, I really love him,” Girardi said.

“When he found the lead I was determined not to go as quick as I did in the Gramel (when he ran second to Powderkeg).

“I thought Powderkeg might come around and sit outside me like he did in the Gramel, but it was Shaun (Adams) on Hammers Law that came up alongside.

“I was able to set as nice tempo and he was good enough to win.”

Girardi said Cyclone S Adams was unlikely to run again before the $40,000 South Australian Trotters Cup (2645m) on Saturday, October 28.

The seven-year-old has had four starts for Girardi for two wins, a second and a third.

A brilliant drive by Samantha Pascoe helped Fletch Maguire take out the Minlaton Hotel Yorke Peninsula Cup (2230m).

Fletch Maguire ($1.60 fav) looked like being caught three back on the inside from his draw of seven but with a lap and a half to go Pascoe was able to ease him into the running line and it proved a winning move.

The Aaron Bain-trained four-year-old finished strongly to score a two-metre win from Im Reggie ($2.90) with Whata Optimist ($21), five metres away third.
