IF you are heading to Tabcorp Park Menangle tomorrow night (Aug. 19), it is Singo’s shout.
Famous larrikin Sydney businessman John Singleton has been at the coalface, driving the promotion of this year’s $2.1m TAB Eureka with his harness racing slot runner being the last to be decided in tomorrow night’s inaugural running of ‘The Singo’.
Singo has pledged to shout the bar at ‘Headquarters’ for punters between races three and five.
Speaking earlier this week, Singo said it was exciting for the trots to have a new race like the Eureka and he wants to share his involvement with those at the track tomorrow night.
The Singo is a race full of intrigue and depth, with a field of talented and in-form three and four-year olds vying for the last spot in the September 2 feature.
Queensland pacer Tims A Trooper (Tintin In America) will head into the race as the likely favourite after his strong winter campaign in his home state.
The son of Tintin In America is a former Group 1 winner at Menangle, taking out the 2021 New South Wales Breeders Challenge final.
Still he will have to work extra hard to earn his guernsey after coming up with a tough barrier eight draw.
To try and offset the bad draw, trainer Grant Dixon and Tims A Trooper’s connections have booked the services of local reinsman Robbie Morris, who knows the Menangle track like the back of his hand.
Morris has driven the gelding 11 times, including when he won the 2021 Group 1 feature.
“We get on alright Timmy and I,” said Morris.
“He is a lovely horse that has been competitive right throughout his career for Grant and his connections.
“Unfortunately, he has run into some champions throughout his career, his biggest nemesis being stablemate Leap To Fame.
“He has found the going a bit tough in the bigger races.
“But he is so honest, and I believe he has every chance tomorrow night to qualify for the big dance.
“I admit that the draw has not aided his quest, but we have a few options from out there and given that the race is over 2400 metres, it gives us time to settle.
“So, I will just be patient early and see what happens and then play it from there.”
