Talented Victorian trotter Maori Law made a statement tonight for next weekend’s Inter Dominion Trotting Final when winning his heat at Newcastle tonight.
Making the most of his barrier draw, Maori Law led throughout from barrier one to claim the $20,000 qualifier and is right where he needs to be according to driver Greg Sugars.
“Each run he keeps getting sharper and the Final is right up his alley,” said Sugars.
“I have no doubt he has (a chance of winning) the way he is delivering through the series and the long trip is probably going to be his best go.
“He’s definitely a winning chance.”
After finishing fifth in the opening heat at Menangle last Saturday then second at Bathurst on Wednesday night, Maori Law held off all his rivals tonight including Pink Galahs who raced outside the leader and Caligula who raced behind the leader.
He clocked the 2030m in 1:59.9.
The son of Lawman is trained by Emmett and Richard Brosnan.
“I’m so happy for Emmett and Richard, they do a great job with their team,” said Sugars.
“Richard is a legend of the sport and was an Inter Dominion winner many years back and would be very proud of what this horse has achieved thus far.”
Richard Brosnan won the 1979 Inter Dominion at Addington with No Response.
