P L Oliver (Sportswriter) made his Wednesday win at Flamboro Downs as dramatic as he could, going last-to-first as a deep longshot and winning in a tight photo finish.
Travis Henry took no risks from post seven, dropping the gelding to the back for the opening-half panels of :27 and :56.1. P L Oliver set in motion on the third turn, slipping out in front of backfield traffic, and he was forced three-wide on the backstretch as he built momentum going to three-quarters in 1:24.1.
P L Oliver made headway three-high and was one of six in striking range as leaders Smooth Lou (Samuel Fillion) and Crazy World (Austin Sorrie) battled on the final turn. The gelding rode his head of steam into the stretch and pushed forward, joining the top two for a three-across fight to the finish. They crossed the line noses apart, and P L Oliver got his up in time to score in 1:54.
Crazy World was second, and the tough Smooth Lou was third.
P L OLIVER REPLAY
P L Oliver has now won back-to-back races and is up to seven on the season. He has won 24 of 133 career starts and has earned $248,908 for owner/trainer Matt Dupuis of Rockwood.
Palladium Hanover (Artspeak) had an opposite performance in the other co-feature. The Travis Cullen-driven gelding went all the way and reached the wire a length in front, cashing in as the odds-on favourite. It was the four-year-oldās 14th lifetime win. Jodie Cullen trains him for Paul Sanders and A1stable.
