Sea Glass (Downbytheseaside), a $420,000 2022 Lexington sale purchase, broke her maiden at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday (May 23) in an open-length harness racing win.
The filly, owned by Determination, went to the top nearing the quarter for Louis-Philippe Roy and held an uncontested lead coming into the stretch. She separated from the field and stretched the advantage to four-and-a-quarter lengths by the finish, putting up a final clocking of 1:53.3. Fancy Lettering (Jody Jamieson) nabbed Allcheekiesoff (Tyler Jones) late for second.
SEA GLASS REPLAY
Sea Glass, a half-sister to Meadowlands Pace champion and millionaire Beach Glass, was winless in her only start at two. She was fourth in her 2024 debut and finished second in her previous start. Luc Blais trains the sophomore.
Also on the card, 2023 Champlain Stakes winner Emoji Hanover (Greenshoe) won her seasonal debut. Chris Christoforou sent her first-over coming around the final turn, and she headed the leader in mid-stretch. Highland Kismet (Bob McClure) flew late, but Emoji Hanover held her off by a half-length in 1:54.3.
EMOJI HANOVER REPLAY
Emoji Hanover, another Luc Blais-trained, Determination-owned filly, went two-for-five in her rookie season, including a victory in the Champlain Stakes. She won both of her qualifiers before Thursdayās victory. She went for $180,000 at the 2022 Lexington sale.
Racing continues at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, May 24. The card will feature four divisions of the first Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots leg for three-year-old pacing fillies and a $36,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace.
