Amigo Volo (Father Patrick) won his second straight $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Feb. 12) in another tight harness racing victory.
The gelding settled fourth for the opening quarter of :26.4 before executing a brush to the front before the half in :55.2. Tyler Borth rated him to a 1:24.2 three-quarters with little pressure but faced the pocket-sitting Handsome Sebastian (Sylvain Filion) as he entered the stretch.
Oney Hall (James MacDonald also joined the scene as they came into the final eighth-of-a-mile and the three battled to the finish. Amigo Volo kept his neck in front the whole way and held off Handsome Sebastian and Oney Hall to score in 1:52.3.
Handsome Sebastian finished second as Oney Hall remained a length adrift.
AMIGO VOLO REPLAY
Amigo Volo has won back-to-back Preferreds and missed one prior by a nose. The Meg Crone-conditioned gelding is now 33-for-88 lifetime and has earned $2,412,936 lifetime. Pinske Stables of Plato and Dave Miller of Lake Mary own the seven-year-old.
Also on the card, Kruise On Dover (Dover Dan) won his first Canadian start after shipping in from Ohio. The gelding, who started in the Old Oaken Bucket last year, motored off second-over cover and got up by a head in 1:55.1 for Doug McNair. He went off at 22-1.
KRUISE ON DOVER
Kyle Fellows now trains the four-year-old for original owner Miller Racing Stable of Greenville, which bought him for $95,000 from the Hoosier sale. Kruise On Doverās career record is now four wins from 23 starts and $45,813 in earnings.
McNair won three races on the day as the cardās top driver.
Racing will resume at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7:10 p.m. EST.
