Bugsy Maguire was well in command of the opening feature of the summer harness racing season at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, braving a sloppy track for a front-end romp.
Austin Sorrie, the 2021 Future Star Award O’Brien recipient and P.E.I. native, directed Bugsy Maguire to forge to the front from post four, and the pair took the lead prior to the quarter in :30.1. Sorrie managed a half in 1:02.3 and three-quarters of 1:34.3 and turned for home with a three-length gap to pocket-sitter Screen Test (Corey Macpherson) and a greater one to the three others.
It was all academic from there as Bugsy Maguire paced home a two and a quarter length winner in 2:03.1. Avatar J (Gilles Barrieau) rallied from the three-hole to take place; Screen Test dropped to third. The winner paid a generous $14.10.
