A pocket trip set Century Mach (Jk Royal Flush) up to take the Fillies and Mares Open Handicap and a new harness racing lifetime mark at Fraser Down on Thursday (Apr. 27).
The mare pushed past Moosette in the first-quarter sprint to claim the pocket spot for Scott Knight. Miss Itunes (Allan Molloy) set the pace of :27, :55.4, and 1:23.1 with little action.
Century Mach made her move straightening for home. Moosette held her ground for the first metres of the duel, but Century Mach pushed past the pacesetter quickly and captured the Open in 1:52.
Moosette narrowly held second over the charging In High Cotton (Dave Hudon), who finished third.
CENTURY MACH REPLAY
This was also Century Machās first Open win of the year; she had three previous tallies in the high claiming ranks. The five-year-old is 23-for-68 lifetime with $137,053 in earnings. Kelly Hoerdt owns and trains the mare.
The win was one of four training victories on the day for Hoerdt. He also sent out winners Chocolate Terror (Stonebridge Terror, Brandon Campbell, 1:54.2), Havinfuninthesun (Sunshine Beach, Campbell, 1:54.4), and Rockingtherepublic (All Bets Off, Molloy, 1:57.1).
Fraser Downs will see action again on Friday, Apr. 28 at 7:00 p.m. PDT.
