Fashion Frenzie (Archangel) returned to Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday (Sep. 15) after a tough harness racing outing in the Yonkers International Trot and won the $32,000 Preferred-2.
The gelding charged out from post six for Louis-Philippe Roy but faced resistance from the rail starter Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen) as they rounded the first turn. Fashion Frenzie took control as they entered the backstretch and trotted well-rated middle splits of :56 and 1:25.
Oney Hall (Doug McNair) pulled out to begin a first-up bid nearing three-quarters in 1:25, but the leader allowed him no closer than two lengths in a :27.1 final quarter effort. Fashion Frenzie crossed the line a winner in 1:52.1.
Oney Hall secured second with a swift final quarter. Perfetto finished third.
FASHION FRENZIE REPLAY
Fashion Frenzie, a double Ontario Sires Stakes champion, has now won 23 of his 37 career appearances and has earned $1,141,287. Richard Moreau trains the five-year-old for Ecurie Francis Richard, Mario Bourgea, and Sylvain Richard, all from Becancour, and Mario Bourgea of Stanbridge East.
In the co-featured Fillies and Mares Preferred-2, Intothemysticmoon (Artspeak) moved up to the top level for the first time since June and lowered her lifetime mark in a late-rushing upset victory. Phil Hudon gave the mare live cover to advance through the back half, and Intothemysticmoon sat second-over as the field entered the stretch. Coming down the lane, she outkicked Parisian Blue Chip (James MacDonald) and stormed by pacesetter Western Wish (Tyler Borth) to win by a length-and-a-quarter in 1:50.3.
Parisian Blue Chip hung on for second over the closing Mystifying (McNair). The winner was off at 9-1.
INTOTHEMYSTICMOON REPLAY
Intothemysticmoonās win ended the mareās win drought that began in mid-April. She went 18 starts without victory but has been on the upswing for the past month, placing in each of her past three starts. Hudon trains the four-year-old for owner/breeder Stephen Upson of Georgetown.
The next card at Woodbine Mohawk Park is filled with eliminations for Grand Circuit events and will feature the Milton Stakes final. Racing will begin at 7:10 p.m. EDT.
