CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The fastest two harness racing pacing mares to ever grace the Canadian East Coast will go head-to-head again on Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The city track has 12-dashes set for 12:30 P.M. on Saturday with the featured Fillies and Mares Preferred pace in race 11.
The $3,100 class has 1:52.3 track record holder Dreamfair Zenfire set on the outside of her competition from post 5 for catch-driver Jason Hughes, trainer Marc Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. The Sunfire Blue Chip mare easily handled this class last week winning in 1:57 over an off-track.
Ladylike was the former track record holder with a 1:53.2 win earlier this season and has post 3 Saturday with David Dowling again at the controls for trainer Colin Johnson. Her last start at this level was a win on Nov. 20 in 1:57.1 over an off-track and then was absent from Dreamfair Zenfire’s win last week.
Campbell will sit behind his trainee Filly Forty Seven from post 2 while Ms Moyse (Adam Merner) has post 1 after finishing a bang-up second last week. Better Be In Love (Dale Spence) rounds out the field from post 4.
Peter MacPhee sides with former track record holder Ladylike for the top spot in the Post Time Picks. “Ladylike went a huge trip from post seven reaching up at the very end to get it all. She gets a great spot to work from today and is a former track record holder so don’t be shocked to see her smiling for the camera.”
The Open trot lines up in race 6 as Freddie looks for a repeat victory from post 5 for trainer-driver Campbell. His top competition includes Osprey Delta (Walter Cheverie) and Glider Man (Merner).
The Rev Takes On Sunday’s Best
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – In the history of the Atlantic Sires Stakes there has never been a graduate with a bigger bankroll than The Rev and he will look to expand that total Sunday afternoon in the top class at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The capital oval kicks off its 12-dash card at 12:30 P.M., and the $3,400 Preferred pace hits the track in race 11.
The Rev has rail control in the Preferred class with Ken Murphy back in the bike for trainer Gilles Barrieau and owners Jeff and Robert Skinner of Nova Scotia. The 11-year-old son of Western Paradise has won 49 races in his career as he looks for the milestone win and to add to his $645,197 in lifetime earnings.
Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) is the morning line favourite with post 2 from the Ron Gass barn after finishing second at this level his last two starts. Former preferred pace winner Bugsy Maguire leaves from post 4 with driver Dale Spence steering for trainer Wade Sorrie.
Fellow Barrieau trainee Mc Pat (Adam Merner) has post 3 while Boys Turn (David Dowling) makes his second Island start from post 5 after winning his debut last week.
The Post Time Picks in Sunday’s card place The Rev on top. “There has been no classier Atlantic bred in the history of harness racing on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada than The Rev. He’s fresh off a pair of wins so his confidence is way up plus he controls the rail. He’s our top pick.”
Moonwriter is favoured in the race 8 Preferred 2 pace with Dowling at the lines for trainer Colin Johnson and owner Debbie Element of Village Green. His top foes are Burn Out Hanover (Brady Sweet) and Sock It Away (Marc Campbell), who returns to action after making his last start in June.
