CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After being bested in his last three starts by the now absent The Rev, the draw was not kind to Screen Test as he takes on the Saturday afternoon harness racing Preferred pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 10-dash Saturday presentation starts up at 12:30 P.M. with the $2,700 preferred pace hitting the track in race 9. The city track received permission from the Chief Public Health office to host the program with a 50 person maximum cohort in the grandstand. Reservations will be required for the Top of the Park and Turf's Bar & Grill in order to follow capacity restrictions.
Corey MacPherson will steer Screen Test in the top event for trainer Ron Gass and owner Kickin Horse Stable of York from the grandstand side of the starting gate. The five-year-old son of Vertical Horizon was second in this class three-weeks straight as he could not get the best of Atlantic champion The Rev. With that top foe out of the picture, the onus is on Screen Test to stick his nose out at the finish but he will have to overcome post 8 to get there.
Legendary Ron is second choice on the morning line from post 5 sporting a two-race win streak for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., and owner Doug Matheson of Cornwall. Third choice is Revenant with post 7 for the duo of trainer Gass and driver Adam Merner.
Peter MacPhee with the Post Time Picks puts Screen Test on top. "Screen Test has put together an excellent season and gets to avoid the bearcats today," MacPhee said. "This is a good group and he'll have to be on his game but we predict Corey works out a trip and they land on the line first."
Race 7 is the Fillies and Mares Open pace for a $2,900 pot. Woodmere Skyroller defeated this group last time out but now is shouldered with post 8 for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. David Dowling remains in the driver's seat of the filly, who boasts the most money ever earned in a season strictly on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada with $87,076 in earnings. Dreamfair Zenfire is top choice from post 6 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell while Back In The Game returning from competition in Ontario to land in the Clifford Murphy stable with Ken Murphy in the seat from post 5.
Race 6 has the Open trot with Freddie coming back to action from post 6 for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. Other top entries in the $2,400 event are Windmeredontuworry (Heffernan) and Glider Man (Dowling).
