Harness News Update: Picks & Analysis for Century Downs July 5th

An nine-dash card full of harness racing action is set for Friday (July 5) at Century Downs. The notable wagers are the Pick 5, which kicks off the card in race one and the $1 minimum Pick 4 which starts in the sixth.

There is a battle of fillies that all have won back-to-back races in the second race. The 2-1 morning line favourite Monsoon (Captaintreacherous) is coming off wins in 1:57 and 1:56. Her only other career win came at the Meadowlands last year. She paced that mile in 1:52.4 and beat the field by a few lengths. Since moving to Alberta, she has been finding ways to finish near the top as she has only finished outside the top three once since racing at Century Downs. Kelly Hoerdt will be in the bike behind the three-old-filly.

MONSOON REPLAY 

Dali Dancer (Dali) is heading into the second race with back-to-back wins. She won with mile times of 1:57.3 and 1:57.2. Her latest mile is the fastest time of her career. She has won four times in 13 starts which have all come in 2024. Dali Dancer has also finished in the top three 10 times and has earned a cheque in every but two starts. Jamie Gray trains and drives the three-year-old filly.

DALI DANCER REPLAY 

Bneath The Cover (Shadow Play) sort of has back-to-back wins coming into the race. She won back on June 1 in 1:57.2 which stands as her lifetime mark. She won in wire-to-wire fashion. Her next appearance, she broke early in the race and was pulled up so she did not finish. Bneath The Cover then was scratched from her next scheduled start cited due to sickness.

She then won her return race in 1:58.4 which was her fifth career win. She went winless as a two-year-old last year but has been finding her stride lately as she won four out of her last six starts if you count the race she did not finish. She comes into the race at 8-1 and Nathan Sobey will be in the sulky.
