Im On The Edge (Sportswriter) captured the first harness racing leg of the Ontario-sired Harvest Series for three-year-old pacing fillies on Friday (Nov. 11) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
She was eighth at the quarter in :27 and sat ninth at the half in :55.4. James MacDonald found her a way out just past the midway point, and the filly advanced as the third member of the outside flow.
Im On The Edge followed the helmet through three-quarters in 1:24.3 and fanned wide as they aimed for the wire. She sprinted clear of her rivals with plenty of racetrack to spare, putting up a three-length margin in the 1:53.1 victory.
Pocket-sitter Arizona (Travis Cullen) found a split late to get up for second. Queen Of Soul (Jody Jamieson), who briefly led in the lane, finished third.
IM ON THE EDGE REPLAY
Im On The Edge has now won three of her 13 starts to date. She was a late debutante at three this season for Big Als Stables of Woodbridge, which co-bred the filly. She made two attempts in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots but has spent most of the season at the conditioned level, earning $34,792. Tony Montini now trains her.
The Harvest Series for three-year-old pacing fillies will see another leg on Nov. 18 and conclude with a $40,000A final on Friday, Nov. 25.
MacDonald visited the winnerās circle four more times during the evening for five wins over the damp track. His most notable was aboard So Much More (Big Jim) in the $32,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred as the mare made her first start since her impressive third-place finish in the Breeders Crown. It was the six-year-oldās 55th career win in 121 attempts. She has now earned $1,182,255 for the ownership group of trainer Don Beatson, Kenneth Beatson, and Cole England.
