With a tremendous late closing kick down the stretch, Samosa scored her first win of the 2022 harness racing season in a romp at Woodbine Mohawk Park Thursday.
The 5th race $18,000 featured trot got underway with Vali Hanover (Paul MacDonell) leaving for the lead from post nine.
They held command with Resolute Bay (Anthony MacDonald) on the outside and clearing to the lead after a :28.1 opening panel.
Then it was Unbeatable Kemp (James MacDonald) coming first-over and taking the lead at the half mile in :56.4. As the field came to the three-quarters in 1:26.2, Resolute Bay came first-over and now in fifth place and sweeping three-wide was Samosa and driver Sylvain Filion.
Unbeatable Kemp still had the lead as they came down the stretch, but it was Samosa and Filion that stole the show. They charged down the stretch and pulled away for a four-length romp in 1:55.1. Vali Hanover was second with Unbeatable Kemp third.
SAMOSA REPLAY
It was a lifetime mark for Samosa, a three-year-old daughter of Cantab Hall, who was making just her second start this season for trainer Scott McEneny who co-owns the filly with Frederick Hertrich. She paid $5.00 to win.
