Simcoe Seelster became the fastest trotting colt of the harness racing season on Friday (May 19) in his fourth career start as he crushed his rivals at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 1:54.
The son of Royalty For Life was on a mission from post 10 and trotted to the quarter pole in :27.3 while securing front-end control. Sylvain Filion reeled in the colt for a :56.4 half and 1:25.1 three-quarters then set him loose heading into the stretch, and Simcoe Seelster dashed home to a four-and-a-half-length romp. Warrawee Xenia (Bob McClure) went last-to-second, and Rosies War Bonds (Ed Hensley) finished third.
SIMCOE SEELSTER REPLAY
Simcoe Seelster’s time bested the season’s best for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings on a track greater than five-eighths of a mile. Evil Guy is the top gelding with a 1:54.4 clocking; Mr Fritter was the fastest entire with a time of 1:55.
William James of Blackstock trains the $9.30 winner. He acquired the colt on May 6, 2022 and shares ownership with fellow Blackstock residents John James and Deborah Aubin. The colt, who made his debut this year for trainer Keith Jones, is paid into the Ontario Sires Stakes and Simcoe Stakes. He was a $26,855 purchase at the 2020 London Selected sale.
