One Last Wish (Bettors Light) rallied from the pocket to become the second harness racing upsetter of Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final night two at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Oct. 14) in the $300,000 pacing filly event.
The filly, off at 6-1, pushed up from post four for Paul MacDonell and took point heading into the first turn. She led to the quarter in :26.4, but Tyler Jones pulled the trigger on Momentary Control from third and took over at the half in :55.
Momentary Control brought the field to three-quarters in 1:23.3 with Talk Curdy To Me (Louis-Philippe Roy) on his flank first-over. The leader kicked away at the top of the lane, leaving clearance for One Last Wish to escape the pocket. One Last Wish hit high gear at the eighth pole, and she hauled down the pacesetter with a late rush to score in 1:51.4.
Momentary Control held second while Talk Curdy To Me finished gamely to complete the ticket.
ONE LAST WISH REPLAY
One Last Wish’s victory was her ninth lifetime in 27 career appearances. She went off at 6-1 despite winning three Ontario Sires Stakes Gold legs this season for trainer Ken Sucee. The filly, a homebred for Brian Legge of Toronto and David Legge of Ajax, has now earned $447,802 lifetime.
“It’s genuinely full circle,” said Sucee after the race. “We had the mother [Arts Diva] so many years ago, and the Legges as owners for so long now, and to have the last one of the mare, that’s why they named her One Last Wish. To do this, and what she’s done this year, is just beyond words for me. I’ve just been blessed, you know, get up in the morning and love to see her, that’s all. They don’t come along very often so I’m going to cherish this and cherish her.”
The Ontario Sires Stakes Super Finals will conclude tonight at Woodbine Mohawk Park with the colts and geldings still to race.
