After being winless in his first four starts of the 2022 harness racing season, Oney Hall has really picked-up his game, winning the $36,000 Preferred-Handicap Trot for the second straight start Monday at Woodbine Mohawk Trot.
The eighth race feature got underway with the two handicapped horses (by post) leaving and fighting for control of the lead.
Perfectto (Dagfin Hentriksen) was able to grab the early lead off the gate and parked out rival Oney Hall (Trevor Henry) to the opening quarter mile in :27.2.
Oney Hall then cleared to the lead and led the field past the half mile marker in :56.2. Then the action began to heat up as Dream Nation (Scott Young) came first-over with All Wrapped Up (Louis-Philippe Roy) following second-over.
Past the three-quarters in 1:26, Oney Hall still held the field at bay as they stormed down the stretch. No one could catch Oney Hall as he rolled to a two-length triumph in 1:53.4. Perfectto barely held up for second with Dream Nation third.
ONEY HALL REPLAY
It was the third straight win for Oney Hall. The six-year-old gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe is trained by Bob McIntosh for owner Alan Leavitt of Lexington, KY whose Walnut Hall Limited bred Oney Hall. He paid $3.50 to win as the 3/5 wagering favorite.
