Phoenix (Deweycheatumhowe) bounced back from last week’s defeat to win for a third time in his last four starts in a narrow harness racing victory at a foggy Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Dec. 9).
Third at the quarter in :28.2, Bob McClure slid the gelding out for a charge to the front before the half in :57.4. Phoenix was allowed unchecked control to three-quarters in 1:26.4, and he sprinted into the stretch with only Eternally Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) within four lengths.
Eternally Hanover took aim coming off the final turn and closed ceaselessly. Phoenix, needing the line in the final meters, found it in time with his nose in front to score in 1:57.
Crystal Baller (Trevor Henry) finished third.

James MacDonald was the night’s most prolific driver with three wins.
The next card at Woodbine Mohawk Park is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 12, beginning at 7:10 p.m. EST.
