Raising Rusty (Kadabra) turned in one of the most powerful Preferred Handicap Trot performances of the harness racing season at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday (Oct. 27).
The gelding, approaching a month without a win, spent the :27.2 first panel in fifth of six starters but went on the march as Tokyo Seelster led to the half in :56.4.
Raising Rusty caught the leaders flat-footed and sprinted to the top in a flash for Stephane Pouliot as they turned for the backstretch. He widened his margin to five lengths by three-quarters in 1:25.3 and cruised home with little encouragement and cut down his lifetime mark to 1:55.2 as he crossed the line.
He was five-and-three-quarter lengths clear of Cold Rage (Samuel Fillion), who circled all but one. Seeyou Men (Guy Gagnon) finished third.
RAISING RUSTY REPLAY
Raising Rusty, trained by Pouliot and owned by 9096 9205 Quebec Inc., has won 21 of his 96 lifetime starts to date. His earnings now total $129,174.
Fillion, despite not winning the feature, tallied the most victories on the day with four.
The next program at Rideau Carleton Raceway is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 30 with a 6:30 p.m. EDT first post.
