SUMMERSIDE, PE – JJ Scarlett (Tobago Cays) was up against the clock as she demolished her Friday evening (Jul. 15) foes in track record fashion in a $15,620 Atlantic Sires Stakes A-division for three-year-old pacing fillies at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway during Governor’s Plate Week harness racing. Earlier on the card, driver Walter Cheverie was sent to the hospital after an accident.
Redmond Doucet supplied the winning steer as the filly was sent forward from post 5 and led through splits of 28, 56.2 and 1:24.4 before closing out the mile in 1:54.4 to erase the former 1:55.1 three-year-old pacing filly track record formerly held by Medici Hanover and Elm Grove Inarush. Walter Walker trains JJ Scarlett for owner Wwggmacinnismackinnon Stable of Inverness, N.S. Orrsterror (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) finished second ahead of Ultimate Long Shot (David Dowling).

Therealprincess (Source Of Pride) kept her perfect five-for-five season intact in the other $15,620 A-division on top at every call in 1:56.1 for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer and co-owner Eddy Doucette and partners Grant Mann, Gordon MacLeod and Blaine Thibeau. Woodmere Jazz (Barrieau) came first-over to finish second with Cougar On A Terr (Danny Gillis) third.
THEREALPRINCESS REPLAY
The $3,000 B-divisions for sophomore fillies saw victories by T Ls Betty (Adam Merner) and Kinda Like Royalty (Walter Cheverie), both in 1:58.3.
Race 4 was declared a no contest as JJ Linda (Tobago Cays) made a break in the first turn and unseated driver Cheverie. The filly was captured with no injuries while Cheverie was responsive with the medical team but was taken by ambulance to the Prince County Hospital for further evaluation.
The Jeff Holmes stable was in top form with a pair of winners on the evening. Sailor Blue captured the $3,000 Andrew Perry Invitational Trot in 1:59 for driver Ken Murphy, trainer Holmes and owners Cindy and Ambyr MacDonald and Yossi Martonovich. The other Holmes win was with Burn Out Hanover (Brady Sweet) in a 1:57 victory in the $3,300 Preferred 2 pace.
Driver Marc Campbell scored a driving triple winning with The Lady Sheriff (1:58.2) from his own barn, Mrs Dragonfire (1:58) for Reg Ferguson while La Vie En Rose (1:57.4) won the finale for trainer Lloyd Hannah.
Live racing continues Saturday evening for the final card of Governor’s Plate Week 2022 featuring the 54th edition of the $30,000 Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, along with the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts, the Bob Dewar Memorial Governor’s Plate consolation and the Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Pacing Mares Final. First race post time is 6:30 P.M.
