SUMMERSIDE, PE – Cornwall driver Corey MacPherson was all systems go on the rescheduled Wednesday evening (Sep. 20) harness racing card at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with five wins including a career milestone.
MacPherson started his handful of wins late on the program as his first victory was in race 8 in a leg of the Fox Group Island Trot Challenge for a $5,300 purse. Striking Pride (Striking Lindsey) sat last with MacPherson above the wheels and swooped in the stretch drive to win in 1:59.4 from the Paul Morrison barn as the longest shot on the board at 22-1 post time odds. Morrison co-owns the daughter of Striking Lindsey with John Breau and Jillian Furness.
Doc Awesome (All Bets Off) had a 9-1 upset with MacPherson in the seat for trainer Dwane MacEachern in 2:00.4 in the race 9 Ivan & Isabelle Cameron Memorial.
The Bob MacInnis Memorial featured more MacPherson steering JJ Patrick (Image Of Dawn) to a 1:58.1 neck decision from the Ricky Armstrong stable in race 10.
Race 11 was the site of the milestone for MacPherson with a 1:58.4 win aboard Southfield Skye (Stonebridge Terror) at 18-1 odds to give the driver 1,500 career victories.
Win number 1,501 was not far behind for MacPherson as the race 13 evening finale supplied a 1:56.2 win with Now Showing (Captaintreacherous) from the Leith Waite barn.
In other action, Melody Maker won the $3,600 Preferred pace in 1:54.4 for driver Dale Spence and owner-trainer Greg MacInnis of Tyne Valley. The dash had an incredible opening quarter as Vino Louie (Driven by Brady Sweet) strung Woodmere Ideal Art (David Dowling) to the first station in 26.3 while Melody Maker watched it all unfold from last.
Well Did had a 1:58 score in the race 3 Humans Of Harness Racing pace for trainer-driver Paul Langille of Nova Scotia
The City Of Summerside Pace went to trainer-driver David Dowling with Southfield Sandy in a 2:02.3 front-end victory.
Live racing continues Thursday evening at 6 P.M. at Red Shores Charlottetown featuring the Brian Andrew Memorial for two-year-old trotters and the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduates Mares Series Final, presented by JD Marine and Diving Inc., and the P.E.I. Standardbred Breeder’s Association.
