CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Dreamfair Zenfire sees herself in a tie for winningest horse in Canada but will attempt to grab the spotlight by herself Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Marc Campbell trained daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip has post 2 in Saturday afternoon’s ninth race featured Fillies and Mares Preferred pace with $3,100 at stake. The Saturday card has 10-dashes scheduled for a 12:30 P.M. post time with featured presentations on the day from Windemere Farms in Hampshire in honour of their 2022 stallion line-up.
The preferred mare’s pace is sponsored by multiple Atlantic Champion sire Malicious, with Ladylike the morning line favourite in the dash with rail control for driver David Dowling, trainer Colin Johnson and owner Debbie Element of Village Green.
Dreamfair Zenfire has post 2 in that class while looking to add to her 16 seasonal victories with Jason Hughes in the bike as trainer Campbell has personal commitments over the weekend that will see him absent from the Saturday and Sunday programs.
Also in the field are Filly Forty Seven (Mark Bradley), The Time To Win (Ken Murphy) and Ms Moyse (Adam Merner).
Peter MacPhee sides with Ladylike to get it all in the afternoon top event.
“Ladylike has been ‘oh so close’ the past two weeks and just missed by a whisker to Dreamfair Zenfire. She moves to the rail and those closing panels are snappy so be prepared for a winning performance.”
Race 10 is the Somewhere Fancy pace sponsored by Windemere Farms. The Somebeachsomewhere stallion just finished his racing career and will stand the 2022 season on P.E.I. Miss Sangria is the favourite in that $2,100 pace for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Ron Gass.
New trot stallion Legion On Honor of Windemere Farms will sponsor the race 6 handicap trot with $2,500 on the line. Glider Man is the top entry with Merner in the seat for conditioner Jennifer Doyle.
Sock It Away Returns To Top Class
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – One of the finest Atlantic bred pacers to ever grace the Eastern Seaboard will find himself back in the main event Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The city track has 10-dashes scheduled for Sunday starting at 12:30 P.M.
Sock It Away is back in preferred action on the card as he leaves from post 3 in the $3,400 top pace with David Dowling in the seat for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The Pang Shui colt put together a miraculous 16-straight stakes wins during his sophomore year in 2018 but has battled injuries in recent years.
Sock It Away got away last in his most recent race but found himself on top by over six-lengths at the finish and will now step up to the top-level Saturday.
Also in the field are The Rev (To be driven by Ken Murphy), Screen Test (Corey MacPherson), Chocolate Swirl (Adam Merner) and Bugsy Maguire (Dale Spence).
The Sunday afternoon Post Time Picks places Sock It Away firmly on top.
“Sock It Away has the heart of a champion and every defining characteristic that creates a great horse. If he is anywhere close to himself there is no stopping him for a second straight win.”
The back-up class hits the track in race 8 with Mc Pat selected as the top dog from post 5 after dropping out of the preferred level. Merner drives the Gilles Barrieau trainee for owners Everette Hanson and Donald Stevenson of New Brunswick as the pacer looks to add to his six wins from 2021.
Doc Darryl has been perhaps the hottest pacer around lately and will leave from post 3 for driver Ken Murphy while Ambyr Campbell steers Better Than Cash from post 1.
Race 6 will see My Land attempt to extend his four-race win streak from post 4 as he sits undefeated on the Eastern Seaboard of Canada. Merner will drive the son of Badlands Hanover from the Jennifer Doyle barn of Earnscliffe.
