CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Rose Run Quest (If I Can Dream) is no stranger to taking on the preferred pace harness racing competition as the former Governor’s Plate Champion shows down with a talented group of foes Saturday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
With 10-dashes scheduled for a 6:30 P.M. opening post time in Charlottetown, Rose Run Quest is the top entry in the race 9 preferred pace with $3,300 at stake. The 10-year-old gelding went toe-to-toe with Time To Dance, who is absent this week, his last start to finish second on May 21 while pacing in 1:55.2 for driver Adam Merner, trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Blair and Carl Hansen and Isaac Shurman.
The 56-time winner has post 4 on Saturday evening and will put his stellar two wins and one second record to the test since joining Team Rennie. Former Alberta stakes star Screen Test (by Vertical Horizon, driven by Corey MacPherson) has post 5 after finishing second to Time To Dance on May 28 and will attempt to build on his 33-lifetime wins. Burn Out Hanover (Well Said, Brady Sweet) has been acquitting himself well at the preferred level and has post 2 after breaking equipment his last start and making a break in stride around the final turn.
Also in the field are My Land (Badlands Hanover, Jason Hughes), Boys Turn (Shadow Play, David Dowling) and GA Speed Sammy (Shanghai Phil, Mark Bradley).
Peter MacPhee places his faith in Rose Run Quest to get it all in the Post Time Picks.
“Rose Run Quest has been excellent to start the meet and already has a couple of wins on his papers,” MacPhee said. “He also draws the mid pack and with Merner at the wheel they could be smiling for the camera again.”
The back-up pace lines up in the race 10 finale. Bugsy Maguire (Bettors Delight) is the top choice from post 6 from the Wade Sorrie barn for owner Walter Simmons of Summerside. Rookie pilot Damian MacLellan has been sharp so far in his short driving career as he guided the horse to a 1:56.1 victory last Saturday in Charlottetown. Cowboy Logic (Western Ideal) will be reunited with Steven Shepherd from post 3 while Legendary Ron (A Rocknroll Dance, Dale Spence) has been saddled with the outside post 7 after a 1:55.4 victory his last time out.
