Stonebridge Alien (Shadow Play-Ken Doll J) brought the highest bid of the first session of the London Classic Yearling Sale at the Western Fair District Agriplex on Tuesday (Oct. 17).
The colt, a half-brother to Graduate Series champion and Champlain Stakes winner Stonebridge Helios, sold for $165,000 as hip 46 to Mark Steacy. Stonebridge Farm consigned the yearling out of their Bettors Delight mare Ken Doll J.
The Hitman Heart (Green Manalishi-Rite Outa The Park) went for the second-highest price of the day, $115,000. His figure was likely bolstered by his half-sister, Willys Home Run, winning her Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final on Friday. yearling is also a half-sibling to Logan Park, a former Ontario Sires Stakes star and current Free For All powerhouse. Steve Colvin of Hanover purchased The Hitman Heart from consignors Dean and Ashley Wilson.
The other horse to sell for six figures was Peloton Seelster (Shadow Play-Porsche Seelster), who went for $105,000 to Dr. Ian Moore. The coltās dam also produced Poseidon Seelster, an earner of $534,170 who took a mark of 1:48.2 last year. He was consigned by Seelster Farms and helped the breeding farm to its $40,000 average on day one.
One hundred-and-forty-four yearlings passed through the ring on day one for a total of $3,984,000. The average was $27,666. Pacing colts edged out trotting fillies for the most lucrative division, bringing in $30,179 per yearling sold. Stonebridge Farm had the highest average price among consigners with an average of $53,200 on their offerings. Shadow Playās offspring brought the most on average with $42,454 per yearling on 23 sales. Muscle Mass was the most represented stud ā 27 of his foals were sold for an average of $34,642.
