Sunshine Beach mare Society Jill earned her first harness racing victory on Canadian soil at Grand River Raceway on Monday (Jun. 20), two years after debuting at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Anthony Haughan ensured the four-year-old converted her pylon post into front-end control. The mare laid down a :28.1 first quarter and felt pressure from A Black Diamond (Colin Kelly) going to the half in :57 but quickened down the backstretch and forced that rival into the pocket.
Society Jill continued to pour it on as she passed the three-quarter station in 1:26.2 and cracked open a six-and-a-half-length cushion en route to a 1:55.4 win.
Charmbo Stormy (Paul Mackenzie) finished second. Steely Dawn (Tyler Borth) was third. The winner paid $4.10.
SOCIETY JILL REPLAY

She campaigned in New Jersey and Philadelphia for most of her 47-start career and has won nine times and earned $75,719 in the U.S. She raced three times at Woodbine Mohawk Park in 2020 before moving south and returned in May.
Grand River Racewayās next card is set for Wednesday, Jun. 22.
