SUMMERSIDE, PE – The battle is set for the top event on a special Tuesday evening (Aug. 30) harness racing program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County track has 11-dashes scheduled for a 6 P.M. start time with the $3,000 featured pace hitting the track in race 10.
The evenly matched field will see GA Speed Sammy (Shanghai Phil) as the morning line favourite from the outside post 5 for driver David Dowling, trainer Colin Johnson and owner Debbie Element of Village Green.
The seven-year-old has put together 25 wins in his career from 82 starts.
Screen Test (Vertical Horizon) has post 4 in the contest fresh off a pair of second place finishes at Red Shores Charlottetown. The former Alberta standout will have regular driver Corey MacPherson in the bike for trainer Ron Gass.
The Backstretch Beat likes Screen Test on top.
“Screen Test can do it from the front or from the back. He’s been a great horse since moving here from Alberta and MacPherson gets the best out of him, so we’ll place him squarely in the win column.”
Rounding out the field are My Land (Jason Hughes) from the rail, Hunger Pangs (Ken Murphy) with post 2 and Coasttocoastshark (Devon Wallace) with post 3.
Murphy continues to lead the dash race with 32 driving wins in Summerside in 2022. Dowling sits second with 27 wins while MacPherson holds down third with 19 victories. The top trainer standings have Earl Watts and Wade Sorrie tied with nine wins each in 2022 at Red Shores Summerside.
Azure Beach (Sunshine Beach) makes his East Coast debut in race 3 of the evening with David Dowling in the seat of the Darla MacEachern trainee from post 5 for $2,050 purse. He had been racing at Rideau Carleton Raceway outside Ottawa with MacEachern now co-owning along with Jason Sherry and Tim Merzetti.
Beach Day (Betting Line) is the morning line favourite in the race as the three-year-old makes her career debut from post 2 for driver MacPherson and trainer Gass.
