Trois-Rivieres, QC – The Breeders Trophy Series enters its second round of competition at the Hippodrome 3R Friday (July 29) with two $10,000 divisions for the harness racing three-year-old colts and fillies.
The colts are first on the track in the 4th race where the Jean-Francois Maguire’s entry of Royalty Beer (Royalty For Life) and Cleveland Massimo (Muscle Mass) are the standouts in the field.
Cleveland Massimo drew post six for driver Robert Shepherd as they shoot for their third straight win. In the first leg of the series, he closed to win by a head in 2:01 and then last week against older horses he scored a four and three-quarter length romp in a lifetime best 2:00.4.
Royalty Beer goes from post three for driver Kevin Maquire and last week finished third against older rivals, timed in 2:00.4.
Starting from the rail is Kenogami Rebel (Archangel) for driver Stephane Brosseau and they were second by a head in the opening round of the series and prior to that had won at Rideau Carleton in 1:58.
The fillies are in the spotlight in the 8th race where the “Princess of Trot” at H3R, Stella Alpha (Royalty For Life) will most likely be the heavy favorite.
Stella Alpha drew the rail for driver Pascal Berube as she goes after her eighth win of the season. Seven of those wins have been at H3R, making her the winningest horse this meet.
In her last start she faced older foes and was third, timed in 1:59.3, which snapped her current three-race winning streak.
Hoping to give a “Princess of Trot” a go is newcomer Cleveland Moneyka (Kadabra) in post 5 for driver Stephane Brosseau. The Ontario shipper has been racing with some success at Georgian Downs and shows a record of 1:59.2.
Also, a contender is HP Felicity (Muscle Mass) in post four for driver Robert Shepherd. She broke in her last start in the series but prior to that had wired the field in a lifetime best 1:59.
