Miss Brylee Ridge (Tad The Stud) benefited from a harness racing rarity on Wednesday (Aug. 24) at Inverness Raceway: a one-horse race.
The two-year-old filly took her two-lap stroll of the half-mile track in 2:11.1 with trainer Mary Clare MacDonald along for the ride. The non-betting race was held before the full seven-race card.
MISS BRYLEE RIDGE REPLAY
She had never been closer to victory than her fifth-place finish by 22-and-a-half lengths on Jul. 12 but earned show and place finishes in P.E.I. Colt and Atlantic Sires Stakes contests, respectively. She is owned by Antigonish residents MacDonald, Marcus Macinnis, and breeder Arnold Rankin along with Ian Tate of St. Andrews.
Defriended (Amigo Hall) ended the 14-race win streak of Up Helly Aa In the competitive Phil Pinkney Memorial division for three-year-old trotters. Myles Heffernan Sr. put Defriended up top through :30.2 and 1:01.2 first-half panels and dueled with Cadillac (MacDonald) to three-quarters in 1:34.1. Defriended found another gear and turned away that rival to score by a length-and-three-quarters in 2:02.3.
Up Helly Aa (Ken MacDonald) made little impact from the three-hole and finished third.
DEFRIENDED REPLAY
Defriended is now five-for-12 lifetime and has earned $21,970. Heffernan trains the filly for owner/breeder Jackie Heffernan of Glace Bay.
Inverness Raceway continues racing on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
