On North American harness racing tracks it’s all about speed over a mile trip, in Australia it’s a mix of both standing start and mobile features across a range of track sizes, in New Zealand it could be about an extreme two-mile contest or a grass track race featuring non-race winners and in Europe the champion trotter is celebrated as a king of the track.
In Harnesslink Race Replays of the Week we bring you a snapshot into the very best contests from around the harness racing tracks of the world.
NEW ZEALAND REPLAY
It was a busy day on Friday at Ascot Park as a number of feature events took place including the Invercargill Cup at Gr1 level. The race proved a competitive affair with a number of early moves meaning the race had a dynamic feel to it. In the end the Dalgety team, headed by Republican Party and driver Carter Dalgety, proved a little too strong for the strong Dunn contingent. Bruce Stewart covered the feature.
CANADIAN REPLAY
Nicholas Barnsdale reported on a wonderful story recently when the 91yr-old Bill Megens managed to rein home a winner at The Raceway at the Western Fair District. The victory came aboard Willy Strike, a horse that had won once prior in some 23 starts. Megens started his driving career in the 1960’s having relocated from the Netherlands a decade prior. The fact that Megens is able to drive at such an age is remarkable in itself – and he still knows how to win too!
AUSTRALIAN REPLAY
Tony Milanese reported on another Western Australian feature event on Friday when the running of the Christmas Gift Pace took place at Gloucester Park. The $50’000 race going the way of the impressive Brickie’s Dream (Rock N Roll Heaven) Brickie’s Dream held off Ventura and Golden Lode in the run to the winning post.
