Republican Party (Bettor’s Delight) is one of harness racing’s rising stars and he took the next step up when he beat a group of genuine Cup horses.
His win in the $30,000 Group Three Alabar sponsored Junior FFA made it two in a row for Canterbury trainer Cran Dalgety who won last year’s feature with Krug.
In the hands of Blair Orange the diminutive three year old despite being pestered by Cranbourne (Sir Lincoln), held on to win by a length and a quarter from Cranbourne.
“He’s just a horse that does what he’s got to. He fought on nicely. He never wins by a big margin but he’s such a professional.”
The time of 3-08.2 was exactly the same time as Krug ran last year. The race record of 3-06.4 is held by Ultimate Sniper.
“He’s one of the smallest horses racing. He just moves his legs quick,” Dalgety said.
REPUBLICAN PARTY REPLAY
Republican Party also continues to impress Orange.
“He’s a pretty nice horse. He relaxes and has got the all round game. He just fluffs along in the run but wakes up when the money’s up,” he said, adding. “He’s improved a hell of a lot and he’s going to be a great free for all horse.”
Margaret and Phil Creighton have a great history with the Junior FFA, having part-owned Ultimate Sniper which took out the race in 2019. They have a share in last year’s winner Krug and as members of the A&M Syndicate they have a part share in Republican Party.
“The girls (Margaret and Anne Mee) are in the syndicate, but I pay the bills,” quipped Phil. “They’re loving it and they’ve put Ken Cummings (well known Otago Motor Dealership Principal) into both Krug and Republican Party and he’s showing a lot of interest.”
