An outstanding drive by harness racing reinsman Bob Butt got the Paul Nairn trained Resolve (Andover Hall) home in the $40,000 Jasmyn’s Gift Fillies and Mares Stakes at Oamaru today.

After getting away safely Bob settled the five year old mare back in the last half dozen of the capacity field.
At the 800 metres he blasted forward and within fifty metres he’d taken the lead. From there he kept the throttle open, heading into the last bend four lengths in front of chasing favourite Hidden Talent (Bacardi Lindy). On straightening, Resolve still had a handy break but Galleons Ambassador (Love You) looked threatening. However under pressure she broke, leaving Resolve in front. She won by five lengths from a brave Hidden Talent.

“She’s a good staying mare and the race worked out good for her. They did a bit of work and I just put her into it at the half (800 metres). She was always travelling well but they were making hard work of it on that track. Paul had her spot on like he always does, and she outstayed them,” Butt said after the drive.
It was Resolve’s nineth win and her second Group win for Nairn. Nairn trained her initially before she had a stint with John Dickie in the north where she won the G3 Greenlane Cup at Alexandra Park and the G3 Waikato Trotting Breeders Stakes at Cambridge.
“Mum and Dad (Birchbrook Breeding Limited) bred her and own her. So I’ve had a bit to do with her.”
RESOLVE REPLAY
Butt is in top form at present, having scored a double at Addington on Friday night with Wilma’s Boy (Tactical Landing) and Gold Bullion (Father Patrick).
“He (Wilma’s Boy) was pretty impressive so I’ll just give him a wee break now and get him ready for those races in December.”
