Cran Dalgety says his two stable stars are in for vastly different summers after brave efforts at the Grand Prix harness racing meeting last Sunday.
Which means punters can expect to see Krug (Bettor’s Delight) back up in the $100,000 Invercargill Cup on Saturday week while Republican Party (Bettor’s Delight) will be heading to the paddock.
āRepublican Party has had a great year and while Akuta was too strong for him in the Derby I was very proud of our horse,ā says Dalgety, who trains with his wife Chrissie.
āWe considered the Chariots Of Fire in Sydney with him but that Captain Ravishing looks very, very good so I think now is the right time to give him a break and aim him at the Messenger and the Taylor Mile in May.ā
Krug though has summer racing on his agenda, with Dalgety going to get through next week before deciding where and what.
āI think the Victorian races will be very deep so I can see him staying at home and trying to pick some targets.ā
The Dalgetys head to Addington tonight for something not quite as glamourous as last Sundayās mega meeting but the boss thinks they can pick up a win or two.
āOhoka Le Bron (R2, No.7) is better than maidens but he has been a bit wired early in his career,ā says Dalgety.
āHe seems to be calming down and improving now and he has to be hard to beat.ā
Invitation Only (R6, No.1) gets a good draw but finds himself in a very slippery race against of the returning All Stars pair of Lumen Caeli and Samhara.
āOur fella is going all right and has been racing in some tough fields but meets another one here.ā
Rakanotta (R8, No.5) comes in well after a handy win last start and had earlier form behind Oaks winner No Matter Wat, Fernleigh Blackbird and Da Vinci so could be at each way value in a race where Kikorangi Blue down in grade looks the one to beat.
āI think Casino Action ((R9, No.4) is one of our better chances and gets a draw this week so he will take some beating.ā
