Down Under Winners with Carter Dalgety

Down Under driver flying the flag with a five bag.

Yet again a down under harness racing driver was the headline of a day’s racing in North America. This time it was Andrew McCarthy who put on a clinic when winning five races on Friday at Harrah’s Chester in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. 

McCarthy started the day early when winning with son of Somebeachsomewhere in Betterthanthebeach for trainer Tony Alagna. The exciting 4yo was steadied to find cover early and then got a drag into the race before McCarthy opted for a three wide move around the final bend to then sprint and absolutely demolish rivals in 1:51.3. Taking Betterthanthebeach’s record for this season to three from four. 

Soon after in an $11,200 pace McCarthy was aggressive with another son of Somebeachsomewhere in Chaser Hanover. Recording a slick 25.4 second first quarter, McCarthy was soon to move and take over the lead before the half that was reached in a lightning 53.4. The pair dictated from there and had too much stamina for the rest of the field to win in 1:49.3 for trainer Stacy Chiodo. 

Jeff Cullipher trained the next winner being Stenhouse Hanover. A Donato Hanover gelding that just got over the line in front in the $6,300 pace, clocking 1:56.3. 

Soon after McCarthy teamed up with Jim Campbell to drive trotting filly Sister Christina. The Father Patrick filly was handled brilliantly throughout the running to take home the $10,800 stake money. Holding out challenges from fellow competitors and put a 1:57.0 win next to her name. 

Lastly it was a down under trio win with down under trainer and horse Kelvin Harrison and Love The Blues N. The Auckland Reactor mare was handled patiently early before taking the lead after the half and then having enough determination in the stretch to win in 1:51.0.

A great day for Andrew McCarthy winning five races and also getting a second and two thirds.

Andrews younger brother Todd McCarthy also had a pleasing day out recording one win, one second and four thirds.
