Dunns have a massive night

All the talk from last night’s harness racing meeting at Addington is about Diamond Racing’s training partnership of Robert and Jenna Dunn and stable driver John Dunn with each recording seven wins.

Prior to last night’s race only three drivers have achieved the feat. John now joins his brother Dexter who notched up seven wins at Forbury Park in May 2015, Doug Watt, who won seven at Reefton in February 1954 and Tony Herlihy who drove seven winners at Alexandra Park in October 2001.

The record of eight training wins at one meeting is held by Mark and Natalie Rasmussen who achieved the feat in November 2018.

On the Drivers Premiership front, John sits on 80 wins – two ahead of Blair Orange on 78.

“It’s hard for me to travel when we’re training so many but if it’s a bit like this further down the track we might have to start travelling,” John told Nigel Armstrong from Harness Racing Unhinged.

Robert and Jenna now have a 22 win lead over Steve and Amanda Telfer in the National Trainers Premiership.

The great night was made even more special as some of Diamond Racing’s longest supporters are involved in the ownership group of the seven winners.

Bruntwood Brigade (Art Major) for Grant Eynon, Frazzled (What The Hill) part owned by Dr Margaret Evans, Follow Your Dream (Bettor’s Delight) for Ross and Angela Gordon, Andy Hall (Andover Hall) for Ian Hunter, Queen Tyron (Bettor’s Delight) for Alan and Ian Neumann and Hadron Collider (Sweet Lou) and Harrison John (Always B Miki) for Kevin McKerrow of McKerrow Bloodstock.

Last night John drove them all except for Andy Hall, which was handled by Blair Orange. John’s seventh winner was the Bob Butt trained Dynasty (Rocknroll Hanover) in the last race.

Surely a night to remember.
